That sounds like a corrupted file system... You might try to fix it with fsck, but it might not be worth the trouble and reinstalling might be faster.

If you really want to compile the old kernels, you will probably need an older version of a distribution, with an older version of the compiler etc., to build it on.
Slackware 1.2 started using the 1.0.0 Linux kernel, but it might compile on some versions before or shortly after that.

On newer Linux distributions you won't be able to compile the older kernels, too many things have changed.

Hi,

1) If you check the a1 folder you'll find a ready-to-boot disk image called 'a1disk'. You don't have to create this one :)
2) Should be solved using the image mentioned in 1)

Have fun!

Nice article thanks...

I have a couple of questions

1. a1 contents are of 3.2M but you instructed us to create 1.4M floppy image . Is that correct or am i missing something
2. When i try to boot with the above mentioned command it says floppy is not a bootable disk !

Thanks in advance

No, I don't have the sources for these older versions... The oldest source I have for XFree86 is 2.1 and that's from somewhere in 1994. :)

Wow, thats great! I've only done the text mode install of SLS, I never bothered with the X11 stuff... I always recall it being such a major pain...

Meanwhile I've been busy resurrecting 386BSD, and it seems all the xfree86-1.X releases are long gone... I don't suppose you happen to have source..? It seems that I was able to find a
